Learn to Sail Sailing Wanganui run Sail Training for all ages over at least six Saturdays each year. Starting at 10am and running for approximately two hours this training would normally be held at the Clubs training Facility at Pauri Lake or at the Club in Gilbert Street. The Trainee will learn in a suitable Club supplied boat and will be given a log book to complete, by the end of the coarse the trainee will understand basic sailing, rope work and sailing theory. Minimum age for juniors is Ten years old, although dispensation can be obtained from the instructor if they feel the person is able to control a boat, there is no maximum age. For juniors we request a parent or guardian remain during the lesson, this is a safety issue and also allows parents the opportunity to assist in the course, meet other families and learn about the club. Trainees need to have warm clothes to wear while on the water a change of clothes for after, they will get wet and even on a warm day wind chill is an issue. Life Jackets will be supplied. Costs involved in this training will be deducted from the first years subscription for any person joining the Club. Sailing - Have a Go! Sailing...Have a Go! is a programme offered to schools throughout the country. It is designed to give students in Year 6, 7 & 8 the opportunity to experience the pleasure of sailing in a safe & well managed environment. A fully qualified Yachting Instructor and an assistant deliver the programme to 12 students at any one time. Boats and safety equipment are supplied by Yachting New Zealand using the Sailing Wanganui Academy facilities at Pauri Lake. Yachting New Zealand offer this scheme with the generous support of the Team New Zealand 2000 Trust and the Lion Foundation. Interested?
